Could wearable Quell provide pain relief?
(WXYZ) – So many gadgets coming out of the Consumer Electronics Show to make our lives a little easier, but this device could actually help people feel better.
Simply called Quell, the company says it can give users relief from chronic pain.
The Quell cuff is designed to wrap around your upper calf. It’s fitted with an electrode that delivers bursts of stimulation every other hour.
The pulses stimulate the sensory nerves in your leg and travel to the brain. This triggers a response that helps block pain signals in the spine, reportedly providing relief from nagging issues like fibromyalgia and sciatica.
The company says their therapy sessions give most people relief within 15 minutes.
Quell also has an iphone app that lets people track their sessions and learn about their sleep quality over time.
According to the company’s website, the device has been cleared by the FDA for use without a prescription.
The wearable pain reliever is expected to hit the market this spring. If Quell works as efficiently as the company says, this could help so many people.
