Manage Chronic Pain Without Medication
Quell Wearable Pain Relief Technology
In this installment of the Wellness Report, NBC Boston’s Kristy Lee tells us about a wearable device that is a new way to fight chronic pain without medication.
Paula Gaines of Woburn, Massachusetts, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 17 years ago. For years, the incurable disease of the central nervous system was controlling her life, but she got it back two years ago with Quell.
Quell is worn on the upper calf. Once turned on, the device does the rest, electronically stimulating the sensory nerves to fight the pain. “On” for an hour, and “off” for an hour. It can be worn everyday for as many hours as needed.
Dr. Shai Gozani of Neurometrix developed the FDA approved device, which is manufactured in Woburn and sold online and in retail stores for $250.
