Cool Digital Health Gadgets from CES 2016
So much to see, so little time…that’s the name of the game at CES, the gigantic tech conference held in Las Vegas every year. Digital Health has become an important part of the Conference with one of the highlight’s being the 7th annual Digital Health Summit produced by Jill Gilbert.
I participated in the summit as moderator of a fascinating panel (Ariel Garten, Co-Founder and CEO of InteraXon, creator of the Muse digital “meditation personal assistant,” and Shelly Ibach, President and CEO of Select Comfort Corporation, makers of the Sleep Number beds). No surprise, the panel focused on meditation and sleep and how consumer products can play an important role in enhancing your health, most likely via epigenetic mechanisms that are only now beginning to be understood.
But, I digress. What I want to do in this post is to highlight a few of my favorite things from amongst a crowded field of digital health devices being displayed at the Conference’s huge Digital Health exhibition.
Quell your pain away
Shai Gazani, MD, Ph.D, President, CEO and Director of Neurometrix joined me at the CES 2016 Conference to talk about their chronic pain product, Quell. You strap the Quell device onto your calf to get persistent pain relief for a variety of chronic pain conditions (e.g., osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and back pain). It is similar to a TENS, but it is much higher power and higher frequency so it gives you systemic relief from pain. The product used to be sold by prescription, but it is now sold directly to consumers with a 60-day money back guarantee.
